Ashover is a lively village with lots of events throughout the year. In March there's a beer, gin and cider festival as well as a classic car hill climb. The popular May Day celebrations include street theatre, a fun run, hedgehog racing and lots of stalls. In July the village hosts a gruelling fell run taking in the Fabrick and there's a fantastic classic car and bike show too. In August the village hosts one of the best traditional agricultural and horticultural shows. The Festival of Light follows in September with the lighting of the village Christmas Tree in December and the hilariously bad village panto just after Christmas.
There is so much to see and do in and around Ashover. There are many beautiful walks just a stone's throw from the property. You can climb high above the village to Ashover Rock, known locally as the Fabrick, or wander down through Demonsdale beside the River Amber.
Once you've worked up a thirst, aside from our own busy coffee shop where you can find something tempting, the village is blessed with three pubs all within a few minutes' walk of Fairfield Loft. The pubs all serve food and some offer locally brewed beers and ciders too. There's a fabulous local butcher selling an array of fresh produce and a tuck shop offering treats as well as local arts and crafts.
On the edge of the Peak District with pretty villages and stunning scenery all around us, Chatsworth House, Haddon and Hardwick Halls are all just a short drive from the property.
Chatsworth plays host to the annual Horse Trials in May, the RHS Flower Show in June, the Country Fair in September and is always fabulously decorated for Christmas.
The market towns of Matlock and Chesterfield are just 10 minutes away by car and offer shopping, entertainment and restaurants.
You can visit World Heritage sites such as Arkwright's Mill in Cromford or wander through the nearby Lumsdale Valley and see the beautiful waterfalls which powered the now ruined mills and form part of our industrial heritage. Experience the thrill of riding in an alpine style cable car up to the Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath and explore the caverns below. For transport enthusiasts there's also the wonderful Peak Rail in Darley Dale where you can fulfil your childhood dreams and drive a steam locomotive or visit Crich Tramway Village to experience transport from a by-gone era.
